Hi Nate, Thanks for the courses! These were very interesting. I’m new at this and only drawing single panel gags in Pencil and posting on instagram @not_in_a_good_way . In future courses maybe you could comment on the actual formatting of comics. Is there a standard size? Do you draw a box first and then draw the comic in the box? Or do you draw the comic and then put a box around that and resize? Also, what about the copywrite info etc. Why is that important? Should everyone do it? If so, what info should be included? Those are the questions that just popped into my head. I’ve been following your work for awhile and I love these modules. I’m looking forward to more in the future. Thanks so much!

      Hi Shaun!

Glad you enjoyed the course and looking forward to producing MUCH more! A thanks for the questions. I think they’re definitely good areas to cover. I can tell you now that I start with a 5.5″ x 5″5″ panel. I have it uploaded into Photoshop and then export to Procreate, so that it’s all ready to go. It’s a square size that works well for my panels in newspapers, magazines, greeting cards and for licensing. I’ve seen other sizes created, but I think it works best. I like to draw larger, too, and then shrink or adjust as needed. As for copyright, it’s pretty important. I try to always put that on my work (for sure on work that appears in newspapers and most of the time for any social media or elsewhere). Protecting your work is important, but I find this day and age that if someone wants to use it, they’ll alter it and go about it that way (yes, they are jerks for doing so).

Good questions and I’ll try to come up with a demo of all of this in the future!

      Best,

      Nate

P.S. — I’ve been following you on Instagram. Keep up the great toons!

      Hi Aaron,

Really glad you enjoyed the courses! Thanks for sharing your link and your work with me. I like your colors, characters and in general it seems to be going in a pretty good direction visually. I’d really focus on a writing routine and keep reading gag cartoons (if that’s the angle you enjoy the most) to continue to grow. I’d also try some new mediums for the art to just experiment with and go with what you feel works best.

You’re definitely on the right path!

Thanks again and stay in touch!

      Nate

Thanks for existing Nate! These courses are great and full of some really useful information. I’m trying to get my stuff off the ground and have newfound inspiration to do so! Right now I’m just focusing on Instagram (@catman4fr), but I’ve got huge plans that I don’t have time for at present. I’ll definitely be keeping a watchful eye on what you’ve got in store. Thanks again!

    1. Nate says:
