Submitting Cartoons to Magazines

A few tips and tricks on submitting cartoons to various magazines!

Magazines. Remember those? Yes, they’re still around and still very relevant. What else is cool about them is that they often times publish cartoons!

I’m not sure if you absorb all of your reading content digitally, but print magazines are still an option as well. They’re going through (and have been going through) a challenging time with the rise of online content, but some folks, like me, still enjoy getting a printed magazine to thumb through. That means they’re open for business.

In today’s video I offer up some suggestions on submitting your cartoons to them. Magazines pay (most of them, at least) and are often times a great way to break into the industry.

There are some strategic ways of going about submitting and following up. So, put that magazine down and watch the latest episode!

Some good info. You might want to pass along the Gag Re-cap. It lists cartoons published that month with captions. A wide variety of magazines are covered. Van Scott edits the publication and usually has new markets and tips as well. The publication has been around since the 1950s and has been revised and updated to include digital magazines as well. Hi Doug! Thanks for mentioning and including the link to Gag Re-Cap. What a great resource. I’ll have to bring this up next time I have a recap of submitting. I remember them from awhile back and yes — they’re a great resource for gag cartoons.

      Thanks again!
